From our standard rendezvous point at Pisa airport the 7 night Elba & Southern Tuscany tour carries you down to the idyllic Island of Elba for three nights before crossing back over to the mainland. Motorbikes are allocated on the first day (early afternoon) followed by an easy ride to the first hotel on the coast below Livorno. Participants travelling from far-a-field, (who may be 'enjoying' jet lag) may prefer the option of being driven to the first hotel (your bike will be taken by trailer to the hotel). The following days and nights demonstrate the vast range of changing landscapes within the Tuscan region. Roads are not too fast (especially on Elba with its sun baked, slippery surfaces) but will offer an endless supply of fun. This tour has some motorway riding but remains concentrated on good country roads. Days 3 and 4 offer the chance of taking some R+R although the tour guide will always be available for guided circular tours. This 7 night tour follows the itinerary below. The meeting point is Pisa airport at 2.30pm on the start date of your tour. If you cannot meet at this time, please contact us. The first ride is a relatively easy 1 to 2 hour blast from Lucca to Castiglioncello taking in Pisa and Livorno and a few curves in on the way. All riders are provided with a radio based intercom for bike to bike communication, a route book and map. We advise all participants to bring a mobile phone that works in Italy. This first ride is completed in group with the tour leader. The overnight stop in Castiglioncello (a lively little resort town on the coast of the Mediterranean) has many options for dinner within walking distance of the hotel (dinner is on us this evening! A fairly early start takes us onto the dual carriageway down to the industrial port of Piombino for a short ferry crossing to the Island of Elba (ferry tickets included in the tour price). The island is naturally stunning with high central mountains, sandy bays, rocky outcrops, hidden 'cala' and interesting small towns/villages. Please remember, however, that the roads are often very slippery in the summer (especially if there is some unseasonal rain). The two nights on Elba are at the stylish resort of Porto Azzuro on the south side of the Island. We head to the hotel from the ferry and have a lunch stop in the town. For the afternoon there is an optional round the island tour led by our guide or you can choose to sunbathe on the beach, hire a boat or go exploring on your own. Today is a free day. The tour guide offers an optional reversed direction round the island tour with a few additonal twists and turns. Some of the road are excellent riding on a bike such as our 749s, some are a little like ice skating. If the guide seems to be going much too slowly, please take heed! We fit in a visit to Napoleone's villa and try to find time to stop at some of the many bars where we can sit and relax. This is a free day for people to take in the beach, follow their own routes or be real tourists and go to the shops! The tour guide is available as required. Depending on the overall opinion of the group we can leave Elba earlier and take in more mainland touring, or later and stay on the island for longer. Once back in Piombino we head inland towards Volterra and our next hotel stay. There are yet more challenging roads to enjoy and at last some decent road surfaces. The hotel at Volterra has a pool and is able to serve dinner so an early arrival is not needed. We tour locally in the western and southern zones of Tuscany including the rather odd 'Ski' resort of Monte Amiata (Tuscany's volcano). From here we head out to the promontary Monte Argentario with its views of Isola del Giglio and Orbetello before returning to our Volterra hotel. Another day of optional circular tours are offered or you may choose to find you own way. The guide will lead you down to Siena and a look around this historic city (a city that lost two thirds of its poplulation to the plague and even suffered the aggressive Florentines catapulting donkey carcasses over the walls to try and make the plague travel quicker!). The support car will take charge of motorcycle gear (helmets etc) leaving us free to explore the city unencumbered. At the end of the day we turn North to head back to our Lucca base and a farewell meal at one of Lucca's finest restaurants. For the farewell meal all transport and all food and drink you can consume during the meal is included in the tours price!) The final morning bikes are returned to the DucatiTours' base and all clients are transported back to the airport. 7 Night Tour of Elba and Southern Tuscany
