From our standard rendezvous point at Pisa airport the 6 night Liguria & Appenine tour gives a flavour of the Ligurian coastline followed by an immersion in the mountainous landscape that rises sharply out of the Mediterranean. The tour includes roads that encourage a more 'press-on' riding style. Motorbikes are collected on the first day (early afternoon) followed by an easy ride to the first hotel on the coast in the chic and exclusive resort of Portovenere. Clients travelling from far-a-field, (who may be 'enjoying' jet lag) may prefer the option of being driven to the first hotel (your bike will be trailered to the hotel). The following days and nights will demonstrate the vast range of changing landscapes within this region of Italy. This tour includes some motorway riding but remains concentrated on good country roads. Roads are not too fast, nevertheless some physical effort is required to keep up the pace and they offer an endless supply of fun. There are many mountain passes. Day 5 offers the chance of taking some R+R. The tour guide will be available for guided circular tours. A Ducati factory museum visit is organised for day 6 This 6 night tour follows the itinerary below and is targeted at riders who want to travel a little quicker! The meeting point is Pisa airport at 2.30pm on the start date of your tour. If you cannot meet at this time, please contact us. We set off towards the coast (west of Lucca) and up on to the area of the famous "Cinque Terre". The first overnight is at the highly exclusive Portovenere. All riders are provided with a radio based intercom for bike to bike communication, a route book and map. We advise all clients to bring a mobile phone that works in Italy. This first ride is completed in a group with the tour leader. The hotel provides dinner for the group (included in the tour price) on their terrace overlooking the marina and the sea. A winding route along the coastal hills takes us up to glamarous Portofino, one of Italy's most expensive real estate zones. During the afternoon we head inland into the Appennines and a strict diet of winding roads! The next overnight halt is in the area of San Stefano D'Aveto and offers a marked contrast to the Ligurian resort towns. Today is pure pleasure in hill climbs and curving roads. Towards the end of the day we make our way to the pretty town of Reggio nell'Emilia and on to our next hotel, the delightful Vecchio Mulino in Maranello. In the morning we have a visit around the Galleria Ferrari and then we move on to Bologna (motorway) for a trip around the Ducati Factory Museum and lunch. The afternoon sees yet more challenging roads of the Raticosa and Futa passes before a well earned stop near Fiesole in a 14th century villa We remain in the villa for a second night this evening so today is available for wallowing in Florentine culture or mountain rides with the guide. Optional local tours to include the Mugello, the high and wild Casentino. The last full day includes a round-about trip (via the ski resort of Abetone and, if there is time, through the Garfagnana national park, before heading on to Lucca and our final night. The route can be shortened or extended according to the requirements of the group. A farewell dinner is organised (included in the tour price) in one of Lucca's finest restaurants with no need to ride the bikes afterwards. The final morning bikes are returned to the DucatiTours' base and all clients are transported back to the airport. 6 Night Tour of Liguria and the Appennines
