From our standard rendezvous point at Pisa airport the 7 night Umbria & Le Marche tour takes the participant through a less travelled part of central Italy. You will see towns/buildings such as the Walt Disneyesque Palazzo Ducale in Urbino, the unspoilt charm of Citta di Castello and the site of possibly Hannibal's greatest battle at Lake Trasimeno. The tours includes some fast riding through the rolling hills of Umbria and the more verdant areas of Le Marche.
Motorbikes will be collected on the first day (early afternoon) followed by an easy ride to the first hotel on the coast below Livorno. Participants travelling from far-a-field, (who may be 'enjoying' jet lag) may prefer the option of being driven to the first hotel (your bike will be trailered to the hotel).
This 7 night tour follows the itinerary below.
The meeting point is Pisa airport at 2.30pm on the start date of your tour. If you cannot meet at this time, please contact us and we shall make alternative arrangements.
From the meeting point you will be taken by minibus to the Ducati Tours base for a briefing and allocation of bikes.
There are changing facilities available and there will be time to sort out any small items you would like to carry with you.
The group sets off on the autostrada towards Florence. At Florence we will switch to the statale road and make our way to Reggello for an overnight stop. All riders are provided with a radio based intercom for bike to bike communication, a route book and map. We advise all participants to bring a mobile phone that works in Italy. This first ride is normally completed in a group with the tour leader.
A winding route takes us up and over the wild Casentino descending in the footsteps of the Medieval Poet Dante through Poppi with its storybook castle, Bibbiena and on down to Arrezzo. The afternoon will take us to Cortona (an ancient Etruscan town) for the 2nd night.
Day 3 is a less demanding day, we have time to relax with local excursions down to Lake Trasimeno and the northern areas of Umbria. We will return to Cortona for the night.
Yet more continuous curves and switchbacks for the route from over the hill from Cortona and back into Umbria. Now we ride along some medium and slower roads towards Gubbio, Assisi and Norcera Umbra. Turning north we head into the less known region of Le Marche and the area around Urbino.
We ride over to Italy's eastern coast today enjoying the blue of the Adriatic at Pesaro, Riccione, Cattolica and Rimini. For our overnight halt we return to our Urbino hotel.
Time to head westward, we ride loosely towards Florence. There are a number of passes to negotiate (watch out for gravel on tight bends - I speak from experience!) before descending into the Fiesole area with views over the both modern and medieval skyline of Florence.
We travel to Lucca taking an indirect route which can be adjusted according to the wishes of the group . Time can be left to explore this gem of a city still encompassed by its famous walls. A farewell dinner is organised (included in the tour price) in one of Lucca's finest restaurants with no need to ride the bikes afterwards.
The final morning bikes are returned to the Ducati Tours' base and all participants are transported back to the airport.
